GK Technique - Falling, on Knees #2

Organization:
Area: Penalty Area
The goalkeeper sits straight up on knees, with the coach at six yards distance from the goalkeeper with a ball. The coach rolls the ball next to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper falls on the side and catches the ball. After the catch, the goalkeeper rolls or throws the ball back. After the goalkeeper shows the correct technique, start passing/shooting and vary the speed and distance of the rolls/passes/shots.
Goal: Learning how to stop a low shot away from the goalkeeper.
Focus Points:
-
Starting position: the goalkeeper sits straight up, with elbows bent and palms of hands facing. Eyes fixed on the ball.
-
When the ball is rolled, both hands go from the hips towards the ball and the goalkeeper falls over on the side of his/her body.
-
Hands: When the ball is played to the goalkeeper's left side, the left hand, with fingers stretched out, must shoot from the hip behind the ball. The right hand goes on top of the ball. When the ball is played to the goalkeeper's right, the right hand, with fingers stretched out, must shoot from the hip behind the ball. The left hand goes on top of the ball. The hand must stay low and go in a straight line to the ball.
-
Legs: when falling to the left bring the right knee towards the chest. When falling to the right, bring the left knee towards the chest. The opposite leg rotates a bit and stretches out. This should all be a flexible motion. Not stiff.
-
The goalkeeper can either bring the ball to the chest after the catch to secure it or keep it out. As long as it is safe to do that.
