Set Up:
12-15 players are set up in the attacking third, playing 2v2 with lines of players starting at the cones. To begin play, the goalkeeper plays a driven ball between the cones to either one of the two attackers. The defenders release from the end line with the goalkeeper’s first touch. The attackers must go around the cones before they can go to goal. If the defenders win the ball, they can score on the two small goals set up outside of the penalty area. Upon completion, the goalkeeper re-starts play with the next set of attackers and defenders.
Coaching Points:
1. If the first defender is too aggressive, he is susceptible to a fake shot.
2. Look for the overlap and the takeover combinations if the attack stalls.
3. Make a positive first touch to goal after receiving a pass in open space.
Progressions:
1. The attackers can go thru the cones and straight to goal.
