Set Up:
9-12 players are set up inside of the grid, with lines starting at the cones. Player 1 begins the drill with a pass up to Player 2. Players 3 and 4 make overlapping runs around Player 1, and Player 2 lays the ball off to either one of them. The player who receives the ball plays it up to Player 5 to re-start the drill, with Players 6 and 7 making the overlap runs. The drill continues back and forth across the grid, with Players 1, 2, and 5 staying in the center for the passing combinations. During the drill, the players switch positions every three minutes.
Coaching Points:
1. When a ball is played up and the attacker isn’t pressured, the overlap run is there.
2. Don’t get out too wide with the overlap run. The run should be as short as possible.
3. The layoff pass is a square pass or a lead pass that a player can run onto.
Progressions:
1. Add players to the outside lines.
