Set Up:
The goalkeepers receive and distribute the ball in a variety of ways, using the players stationed around the outside of the field.
Diagram 1:
Pass 1 - Throw from the GK to an outside back, the outside back dribbles towards the end line and makes a return pass.
Pass 2 - The GK receives and opens up, plays the ball out to the other outside back. The outside back plays it right back to the GK.
Diagram 2:
Pass 3 - The GK moves out to clear, plays a first time ball to an outside mid.
Pass 4 - The outside mid collects the pass and plays square to a center mid, who shoots at the GK.
After catching the shot, the GK can re-start the sequence with the throw to an outside back or switch out with another GK.
Coaching Points:
1 Speed of Play – The throw to an outside back or mid should not slow down his run.
2 Switching the Field – The GK must be able to open up and play the ball outside in two touches or less, every time.
3 Decision Making – Choose the right opportunity to play the ball forward to a midfielder.
Progressions/Regressions:
1 Work crosses into the drill from the outside back or mid.
