Alternate Overlaps
Alternate Overlaps
Set Up:
Five players are set up inside of the small grid, starting at the cones. To begin the drill, Player 1 makes a pass out to Player 2, and then overlaps down the opposite side of the grid. Player 2 plays square to Player 3, who then turns and plays the ball thru to Player 1. Player 1 passes up to Player 4, who restarts the drill in the other direction. Players 1, 4, and 5 shuttle back and forth across the grid, while Players 2 and 3 stay in the center, switching places with each turn. After 3-5 minutes, the players change starting positions.
Coaching Points:
1. Player 1 has to wait for Player 3 to receive and turn before making the overlap run.
2. Play the thru ball into space, and let the overlapping player run onto it.
3. Open up with your first touch, and look at the opposite side of the field.
Progressions:
Add a support player at the empty cone, and run overlaps to either side.
