Hold the Run
Hold the Run
Set Up:
There are 12-16 players set up in the attacking third, with lines starting at the cones. To begin the drill, the first attacker dribbles out from the end line to the corner of the box. As he carries out, the second attacker releases from the cone and begins a horizontal run across the field. As the first attacker cuts around the cone, the second attacker calls for a thru ball and cuts in to goal. The first attacker plays the ball thru for him to settle and finish. After the shot, the players switch lines.
Coaching Points:
1. A horizontal run across the field is the visual cue for the thru pass.
2. Hold the thru run until the dribbler looks up and sees you.
3. Use the outside of the foot to make the thru pass. Flick it sharply as you go by the cone.
Progressions:
1. Add a passive defender and call offsides.
