Set Up:

There are 12-16 players set up in the attacking third, with lines starting at the cones. Player 1 begins the drill with a horizontal dribbling run towards Player 2. Player 2 makes a horizontal run into the center, and then combines with Player 1 on a heel pass or takeover combination. Player 2 then passes the ball up to Player 3, and Player 3 lays the ball off to Player 1 or Player 2 for a finish on goal. The players should rotate to all three lines during the drill, and the starting position should be switched over to the right side after 5-10 minutes.

Coaching Points:

1.  Player 1 has to hold his run until the pass is made to Player 3 in order to stay onsides.

2.  A horizontal dribbling run is the visual cue for the heel pass or takeover. 

3.  As you run onto the layoff pass, look up for the goalkeeper and deal with him.
