Set Up:
There are 12-16 players set up in the attacking third of the field, starting at the cones. The Feeder begins play with a lead pass to the lone attacker, who attacks the goal 1v2. The defenders release with the Feeder’s first touch, and they move quickly to the pressure and cover the ball. Play continues to completion from there. If the defenders win the ball, they can score in the two small goals set up outside of the penalty area. On goals and balls put out of play, the Feeder re-starts the drill with the next set of players.
Coaching Points:
1. If you are closest to the ball, make the decision to pressure and go right away.
2. Having a numerical advantage should not change the way you play 1v1 defense.
3. Don’t settle for kicking the ball out of play if you can win it and keep it.
Progressions:
1. Progress to 2v2.
