4v2, with Overlaps
4v2, with Overlaps
Set Up:
There are fourteen players set up in the attacking third, playing 4v2 in the small grid, and 2v2 inside of the penalty area. To begin play, the attackers play keep away from the defenders inside the grid. Any time an attacker loses the ball, he becomes a defender. When a thru pass is made between defenders, the flank attackers (Players 1 and 2) are sent to goal. The ball is played into the penalty area for the attackers to try and finish 4v2. If the defenders in the penalty area win the ball, they can score in the small goals set up outside of the penalty area.
Coaching Points:
1. The attackers should use the entire space in both the grid and the penalty area.
2. Play one and two touch soccer, moving the ball faster than the defenders can recover.
3. Look to get to the end line in order to make the set back pass.
Progressions:
1. A defender in the grid drops back into the penalty area.
