Overlap Sequence
Overlap Sequence
Set Up:
Six players are set up inside the grid, with one player starting in the center, and the others at the cones. Player 1 passes up to Player 2, and then overlaps to the opposite side of the grid. Player 2 turns and plays the ball up to Player 3, who passes the ball thru to Player 1. Player 1 then leaves the ball for Player 4, who restarts the drill in the other direction (Player 4 to 2 to 5 to 4). After three minutes, the players change their starting positions.
Coaching Points:
1. Wait for the play to develop in order to time the overlap run correctly.
2. Player 2 should open up with his first touch, looking away from Player 1.
3. The overlapping player should be able to run onto the thru pass without slowing down.
Progressions:
1. Players 1 and 5 both make overlapping runs.
