Attacking From the Back
Attacking From the Back
Set Up:
12-16 players are set up in the defending third, with lines starting at the cones. To begin play, Player 1 passes the ball back to the goalkeeper. Player 2 (the defender) runs towards the ball to pressure the GK. The GK controls the ball, commits the defender, and then passes outside to Player 3. Player 3 runs out with the ball as Player 2 chases, trying to reach the gate set up on the sideline. Both sides of the field are in use at the same time during the drill, and the players rotate to all three lines.
Coaching Points:
1. The goalkeeper should pass the ball before the defender gets to within five yards.
2. The outlet pass from the goalkeeper should lead Player 3 up the field.
3. Player 3 should get to a deep starting position and take his first touch forward.
Progressions:
1. Progress to 4v2 Breakout Drill.
