Up, Back, and Thru the Center
Up, Back, and Thru the Center
Organization:
Two groups of three players. One group attacks, and the other group defends when attackers run into the box. Center forward and two midfielders start a combination play. First pass to the center forward who plays ball back to the other midfielder. First passer makes a run towards the box and receives the through ball.
Variations:
All three attacks quickly in a sequence with defenders. Three in the center and one on each flank. Start with attack in the center. One, two or three defenders can run with the attackers into the box and defend. - See Picture Above. Defenders in Yellow. After the attack in the center is done, an attack over the flanks follows. The three central attackers ‘recycle’ and try to score from the cross. First from one side, followed by the other side.
Coaching Points:
Intelligent movement before and after the pass
● Initial movement away from the ball to create space.
● Accurate passing. With the correct speed to the correct foot or into space.
● Communication: verbal, gestures, eye contact, and with runs.
Shot must be on target!
