Flank Attacks
Flank Attacks
Set Up:
The Feeder begins the drill with a pass up to the striker - Player 1. Player 1 plays a back pass to either outside mid - Player 2 or Player 3. while the center mids - Players 4 and 5 - make overlapping runs down the line. From there, the central players combine to play a ball out to either flank for a cross and finish.
Coaching Points:
1. Speed of Play – Play one touch passes when you can, use two touches when you should.
2. Timing the Runs – The flank players have to watch the play develop and adjust their runs according to the speed of play.
3. Deception – Avoid becoming predictable with the combinations and the thru pass. Use different patterns of play.
Progressions/Regressions:
Progression 1 – Add three defenders. The attack begins with a pass to the target man (Player 1), and the defenders can release with his first touch.
