Four Zone Possession Game
Four Zone Possession Game
Set Up:
During play, the attacking team (in black) must keep two players in each zone at all times. The four defenders (in red) can move around the entire field, as can the goalkeeper. Four defenders stay around the outside of the field, waiting for turnovers and to switch into the middle. The attacking team can score thru any of the four sides of the central goal, and can score again as soon as the ball comes back out of goal. The defending team scores one point for winning the ball and making five consecutive passes. Games are played to five points. Defenders can switch out of the middle on the fly with a teammate.
Coaching Points:
1. Speed of Play – Maintain or increase the speed of the attack.
2. Decision Making – Look for passes against the flow of play. Reverse direction on the defense.
3. Concentration – Stay involved in the play as the ball moves away from you. Don’t switch off.
Progressions/Regressions:
Progression 1 – Add another goal and goalkeeper on the inside of the field
