One v One
One v One
PURPOSE OF SESSION:
For players to practice 1v1 situations.
INITIAL SET-UP:
- Set up an area split into three zones.
- One group attacks, the other defends as players pair up.
- Play 1v1 all over the area.
INSTRUCTIONS:
• Attackers start with a ball and attempt to dribble past their defender into the next zone. • TRANSITION: If defender regains possession, he can dribble the ball out of the zone. Players must not be allowed just kick the ball out of the area (encouraged to transition and counter-attack) • Change the players playing against each other very regularly.
PROGRESSIONS:
1. Defenders and attackers work as pairs. Either defender can tackle / defend against either attacker, allowing players to work as a pair. 2. Remove the zones and attack / defend the end lines.
COACHING POINTS:
1. Look to win the ball and transition to attack, rather that just booting it out.
2. Be patient. Do not lunge in or stick a foot out when the ball is on the attacker's foot.
3. Fake tackles and coerce the attacker into making a poor touch.
