Argentina - Midfield Support of the Attack
Argentina - Midfield Support of the Attack
WHY USE IT:
Argentina has an array of attacking talent. This activity seeks to improve the combined play of the forwards and the attacking midfielders
SET UP:
7v7 on half a field with 3 zones of 18-22 yards length. The players are 4v4 in the central zone and 1v1 in the end zones. Have plenty of balls at each goal for the keepers to begin each phase.
HOW TO PLAY:
The ball always begins with the keepers. The ball must be played into the target player before one midfielder may release to create a 2 vs.1 to goal. Each new possession each player must return to their starting zone.
Progression/alternative:
1. Allow one defender to recover also (2v2)
2. Allow the forward to check into midfield and a midfielder to check high
3. Remove zone condition while encouraging play through the forward
TECHNIQUES:
1. Passing and receiving.
2. Shooting off the dribble.
3. Shooting of the turn.
4. Finishing quickly in numbers up situations.
MAIN COACHING POINTS:
1. The striker must check away from the ball in order to create space for the pass into the zone.
2. Hold your forward run until a high percentage chance to play to the target arises.
3. Poor passing into the target will result in turnovers and man-down situations.
