Overlap Shuttle, #3
Overlap Shuttle, #3
Set Up:
6-8 players are set up inside of the grid, working back and forth across the field. Player 1 starts with possession. Player 4 makes an overlapping run around him as Player 2 pressures the ball. Player 1 plays a lead pass for Player 4 to run onto, and Player 4 passes up to Player 3. Play restarts in the other direction with Player 5 making the overlap run around Player 3 as Player 1 pressures. Players 4, 5, and 6 continue to run overlaps across the grid, while Players 1, 2, and 3 shuttle back and forth in the center, taking their turns passing, then pressuring. After 3-5 minutes, the players change starting positions.
Coaching Points:
1. The player in possession must have enough time to hold the ball as the overlap develops.
2. Ball fakes will get the defender to slow down his approach.
3. Pass out into space for players to run onto rather than pass directly to the feet.
Progressions:
1. Add lines so that overlaps can be run on the right and left at the same time.
