5v3 Heading Drill
5v3 Heading Drill
Set Up:
There are 12 players set up in the attacking third, playing 3v3 in the penalty area with two additional attackers playing outside the box. To begin the drill, the Feeder crosses the ball into the penalty area. The attackers look for header finishes, and the three defenders look to clear the ball out into one of the three target goals. The attackers outside of the penalty area try to intercept clearing attempts and then take the ball back to goal. They may not move until the header is struck by a defender. The Feeders alternate service during the course of the drill, and the players change positions after ten balls.
Coaching Points:
1. Delay the run until the last moment and then sprint to the ball.
2. If you have a bad angle, head the ball back across the face of the goal.
3. Get up above the ball and head it down to the ground in order to score.
Progressions:
1. All five attackers can finish the cross.
