Header Finishes
Header Finishes
Set Up:
There are 8-10 players set up on the small field, with four shooters starting in the center. The four Feeders serve air balls (with their hands) from the end lines. The shooters run in a figure-eight pattern around the field — from Goal 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 — finishing each ball with a header into the small goal. After 5 minutes, the attackers trade places with the Feeders. After ten minutes, the drill changes direction and runs from Goal 4 to 3 to 2 to 1.
Coaching Points:
1. Slow the run down in order to adjust to the pass, and then sprint to the ball to finish it.
2. Jump up, get above the ball, and head the top half.
3. Head the ball down to the ground in order to score.
Progressions:
1. Diving headers.
2. The Feeders serve, and then defend the goal.
