Transition #2
Transition #2

Two Servers, #2
Three players start at the cones. Players 1 and 2 quickly serve to Player 3, Player 3 controls and makes return passes. Play varies during the drill (see Progressions). The players rotate to new starting positions every 30-60 seconds.

- The receiver should make eye contact with the passer.
- The non-kicking foot should be pointed at the target.
- Get into the path of the ball as quickly as possible.
5v3, Transition
Three teams of five play 5v3 in one half, and the other two defenders stay in the central zone. The ball can be changed over to the other half after five passes. When a team loses possession, they become the defending team.

-
Anticipate turnovers and move first.
-
Do not ‘switch off’. Continue playing.
-
Defenders in the central zone must move as a unit.
5v3, Transition Game
Teams play 5v3 with eight players on the outside. The outside players are limited to one touch, but they can shoot. When the three defenders win the ball, they must make at least one pass to an outside player before shooting.

-
Attackers should use the entire width and depth of the field.
-
Play one and two touch and force the defenders to chase.
-
Look for passing options BEFORE you receive. Anticipate play.
8v6, Moving the Defenders
Teams play 8v6 with two GKs. The attacking team can score in either large goal. If the defenders win the ball, they attack the two small goals. GKs re-start play.

-
Always pressure the ball.
-
Cover the most dangerous players first.
-
GKs must move the entire defense together as a group.
9v9, Free Play
Teams play on a field a bit smaller than a full field - penalty area width and one end line moved up to the edge of one penalty area. The length of the game is 30-40 minutes and play is continuous, meaning no stoppages by the coaching staff to instruct.

-
No stoppages in play for coaching.
