Set Up:
There are 16 players set up in the attacking third of the field, playing 2v1 in the flank zones, and 3v3 in the penalty area. Two additional defenders are stationed outside the 18. The Feeder begins play with a pass in to one of the flank zones, and the two attackers look to play the ball into the penalty area for a finish on goal. However, a second defender will enter the flank zone after three passes. With any change in possession, the ball is played back out to the Feeder for the re-start, and players must leave the flank zones at the re-start to create the 2v1’s.
Coaching Points:
1. Look for first time finishes off of crosses and setbacks.
2. Use 2v1 combinations in the flank zones—vertical takeover, overlap, double pass, etc.
3. Do not ‘switch off’ when your team wins the ball. Get right into the counter-attack.
Progressions:
1. Play 3v3 plus one in the penalty area.
