Organisation:
Area: 24 x 12 metres (2 - 12 x 12 metre areas)
Three Red Players v one Blue Player in first area + two Blue Players in second area.
Red Players start the practice with emphasis on retaining possession from the Blue Player in a 3v1 situation.
If the Blue Player wins the ball, he must quickly transition to attack and play to either of the two Blue Players in second area and go and join them. The Red Players upon losing possession must transition to defend and try to stop the Blue Player from playing the ball into the second area. If unsuccessful, one Red Player must transfer to the second area, creating another 3v1 situation with the same principles of the practice.
Coach has a supply of balls on the outside. If the players in possession let the ball go outside of their area, the Coach passes the ball into the other area to start a new game
Football Actions:
Quality and selection of pass – weight and accuracy – 1st and 2nd line passes
Body shape/ Receive on the back foot/First touch
Angles and distance of support
Width and depth – Penetrating pass
Awareness of space and defender and communication between players
Transition to Defend – Can we win ball back as quickly as possible?
Transition to Attack – Can we play the ball to the player furthest away from opposition?
Notes:
As this is physically demanding, watch your work to rest ratio and make coaching points in the rest periods
