Set Up:
There are 12-15 players set up in the attacking third, starting at the cones. Player 1 begins the drill with horizontal dribbling run towards Player 2. Player 2 makes a horizontal run towards Player 1, and then combines with him on a takeover or heel pass combination. Player 2 passes out wide to Player 3, as Player 1 runs to goal. Player 3 crosses the ball to Player 1 for a first time finish. The players should rotate to all three lines during the drill, and the starting positions should be switched over to the right side of the field after 5-10 minutes.
Coaching Points:
1. A horizontal run across the field is the visual cue for the takeover or heel pass.
2. Player 1 must let the play on the sideline develop before starting his run to goal.
3. Read the play and determine whether the last pass will be a cross or a setback.
Progressions:
1. Add the fakes of the 2 v 1 combinations.
