Focus Points:
-
Starting position: the goalkeeper sits straight up, upper arms straight down with elbows bent and palms of hands facing. Eyes fixed on the ball.
-
When the ball is nearing, stretch out arms towards the ball. Elbows stay slightly bent.
-
Form a W with the hands and bring them on top and somewhat behind the ball.
-
Try to catch the ball as far as possible from the body to be able to take out the speed of the ball.
-
After controlling the ball, the goalkeeper can roll/throw the ball back right away or secure the ball on the chest for safety.
-
Securing the ball: after the catch move the ball towards the chest. The hands slide around the ball to enclose it on the chest. Out and In.
-
The goalkeeper may fall forward on the ground and smother the ball.
