Set Up:
There are 10-14 players set up on a small field, starting on the end lines. To begin play, Player 1 makes a long pass to Player 2 and then runs to goal. Player 2 plays the ball back to Player 1 for a first time shot. During the drill, the players can run to the outside or the inside to receive the first pass (Player 4 runs to the inside in the diagram above). After 10 minutes, the players switch to the other side of the field.
Coaching Points:
1. Hold the run in order to adjust to the pass.
2. Just make solid contact on a ball set back to you. Don't overpower it.
3. Deal with the goalkeeper as opposed to just hitting the ball at the goal.
Progressions:
1. Use layoff and heel passes to set up the shot.
