Set Up:
There are 12-16 players set up in the attacking third, starting at the cones. Player 1 begins the drill with a pass out wide to Player 2. As Player 2 receives, Player 3 makes a horizontal run across the field, and Player 1 starts his run to goal. Player 2 passes the ball square to Player 3, who plays a first time thru pass to Player 1. Player 1 finishes on goal. The players rotate clockwise during the course of the drill, and the direction of the drill should be switched after 5-10 minutes (Player 1 to 3 to 2 to 1).
Coaching Points:
1. Player 1 has to hold his run until the play between Players 2 and 3 develops.
2. A midfielder running unmarked down the center is the visual cue for the thru pass.
3. Control the thru pass as soon as possible, and then look up for the goalkeeper.
Progressions:
1. Add a defender and call offsides.
