Set Up:
There are 12-16 players set up in the attacking third, with lines starting at the cones. The Feeder begins play with a pass to Player 1, sending him towards the corner. Player 2 follows the play and calls for Player 1 to come back. Player 1 turns back up the sideline, and the two players perform a vertical takeover. Player 2 continues to the corner, and then crosses the ball to Player 3, who finishes on goal. The players alternate between the two lines during the drill, and after 10 minutes, the lines move over to the other side of the field. Player 3 rotates out after 5 minutes.
Coaching Points:
1. Player 1 needs to keep the ball on the outside of his foot before the exchange.
2. Use eye contact, body language, and verbal commands to get your message across.
3. Both players should accelerate out of the takeover combination.
Progressions:
1. Fake the takeover, drop the ball to Player 4 for a cross.
