Coach will assign the players for the wall. Each player will have a # from 1 to 5.
Player 1 will be the center mid, 2 will be the left mid, 3 will be the right mid, 4 will be the center, and 5 will be the right full back.
The coach will assign a wall captain which will be one of the strikers to guide the anchorman into place.
Coach will walk through each wall set up. On the 9 o-clock and 3 0-clock free kick position. for the 9 o-clock position the player will line up to the left post. For the 3o-clock position the player will line up to the right post.
On the 10 and 2 o-clock free kick position the goalie can call for 2-3 players to form the wall. |Players 1,2, or 3 will form the wall. for the 10 o-clock position the player on the left will line up in line with the left post with the other players forming the wall on the "anchorman". If the free kick is on the 2 0-clock position, the goalie will call for 2 or 3 players for the wall. The player on the right will line up with the right post as the "anchorman" and the other players will form the wall on the anchorman.
On the 11 o-clock and the 1 o-clock free kick position the goalie will call for 3 to four players on the wall. On the 11 o-clock free kick the player on the left will line up in line with the left post. The 3-4 remaining players will form the wall on the anchorman. On the 1 o-clock free kick the player on the right will be lined up with the right post as the anchorman, the remaining 3-4 players will line up on the anchorman.
On the 12 0-clock free kick the goalie will call out for 4-5 players to form the wall.
Each time the players in the wall will place their arms in the protective stance. One arm across the chest the other protecting the face.
As instructed by the coach.
For this drill, there are 9 players in the defending zone. The coach will have the assigned wall players as mentioned above, plus the full backs and center backs.
The fullback and center back who are not assigned a wall # will set up defensively in the goal crease depending on where the attacking team is.
The other players who are not assigned to the wall will line up defensively on an opposing player.
Once the coach runs through the basic position of the wall on each clock time.
The fullbacks, center backs and assigned wall players will jog around mingling in box made by the red cones. This is to mix up the numbered players.
As the same time the remaining players will pass the ball around the free kick cones.
The coach will call out a time (10 o-clock) the players will have 5 seconds to get set up. This includes the goalie calling out how many players in the wall (2 or 3!) The appropriate numbered players will form the wall on the anchorman. With the wall captain lining up the anchorman.
The offensive player will once the get the ball passed to them, the will set up for the free kick and once the wall is set up will attempt a free kick on goal.
After the free kick is done, the defending players go back to "mingling in the red cone box" wile the offensive player pass the ball. \
The coach will call out a new time and the drill will be repeated.
